We’ve taken the Green Pledge

At the start of this year’s Family Mediation Week, Vollans Mediation has taken the World Mediators Alliance for Climate Change’s Green Pledge.

As we’ve been thinking about how we ensure the mediation service we offer is sustainable in a post-Covid world, consideration of environmental sustainability certainly forms part of the conversation.

Julia Tanner, a trained and experienced Carbon Conversations workshop facilitator, describes the profound crisis we’re facing:-

“Dramatic climate change and biodiversity loss are fundamentally undermining the very physical and biological processes and systems on which life on Planet Earth depends. These changes have been driven by ever increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Since the start of the industrial revolution, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has been steadily rising, driven by the burning of fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil) and the destruction of natural vegetation through deforestation and agriculture. Rising levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are destabilising the climate, with frightening consequences for human, animal and plant life. These are already in evidence as changing weather patterns and increasingly frequent extreme weather events, seen in devastating flooding, extraordinarily high temperatures, and ever fiercer tropical storms. Unprecedented changes in rainfall and temperature patterns are causing rises in sea level, drought, record numbers of uncontrollable wildfire, loss of natural habitats and threatening the survival of many plant and animal species”

So at the start of 2022, we’ve pledged to work towards becoming a more environmentally sustainable organisation. We want to make sure we put this into practice. We don’t have all the answers but we’re committed to having an ongoing conversation about how we can reduce our ‘carbon footprint\’ in the work we do.
