Founder of Vollans Mediation

At Vollans Mediation, we put children at the heart of family decision-making. We are proud to support Child Friendly Leeds, an initiative that brings people, organisations and communities together with the shared aim of making Leeds the best city for children and young people to grow up in.

Children and young people helped create the Child Friendly Leeds vision and its twelve wishes. Two of these wishes (Wish 1 and Wish 3) closely reflect our approach to family mediation and the principles that underpin our work with families.

Wish 1: Children and young people know how and where to get support for their mental health and wellbeing if they need it

Family breakdown can place real emotional strain on children. Mediation helps parents address disagreements constructively, which reduces stress and uncertainty. We signpost families to services so children know they’re not alone and can get help

Wish 3: Children and young people express their views, feel heard and are involved in decisions that affect their lives

One of the most important aspects of mediation is ensuring that children have a voice. Through Child-Inclusive Mediation, where appropriate, children can meet with a trained mediator to share their thoughts and feelings. These views are then fed back to parents, helping shape arrangements in ways that truly consider the child’s perspective. This process supports children in feeling listened to and involved, without placing them in the middle of conflict.

Why This Matters

By supporting Child Friendly Leeds, we affirm our commitment to keep children’s wellbeing, safety and voices at the centre of our work. At Vollans Mediation, we help families resolve issues constructively so children benefit now and in the future.

More Information

We’re developing a Children’s Area on our website. It will help children understand the purpose of mediation, what to expect from their parents’ process and how they might be involved. To learn more about Child Friendly Leeds and their 12 wishes, visit:
