What is Child Friendly Leeds?

Here at Vollans Mediation we are proud to be ambassadors of Child-Friendly Leeds, a city-wide movement that nurtures the well-being, happiness and development of its children.

Leeds is setting the standard as a city that prioritises its youngest residents. Launched by Leeds City Council in 2012, this project aims to make Leeds the best place for young people to grow up. At the heart of Child-Friendly Leeds is the belief that children should be active participants in shaping their city. This includes involvement in decision-making, creating safe and enjoyable spaces, and ensuring access to quality education, health services, and leisure activities.

Why Becoming an Ambassador Matters to Vollans Mediation

We have always been a child-focused organisation, helping parents make decisions that benefit and prioritise their children in the midst of their separation. Our team of mediators can talk through different arrangements and offer suggestions which are practical and workable for parents. In Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM), we give a safe space for children to speak with someone outside the family, where their feelings and wishes can be heard and taken into account.

Child-Friendly Leeds encourages everyone – from businesses to schools to families – to work together to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for all young people. We are doing our part not only in mediation but also in promoting child welfare and raising awareness of this cause.

Celebrating a Child-Friendly Leeds

A key feature of the initiative is the annual Child-Friendly Leeds Awards. This event celebrates the contributions of individuals and organizations who make a positive impact on children’s lives. Vollans Mediation were invited to attend the inspiring evening, which showed the huge variety and quality of services and resources that allow kids to thrive. It was great to cheer on the children making a difference in their city. It also gave an opportunity to connect with others who are offering invaluable support to young people.

Our Commitment to Supporting Children and Families in Leeds

At the awards we learned about the 12 Wishes, a list of the top issues and priorities for children in Leeds to play, live and grow up with. These are the foundation of what Child-Friendly Leeds sets out to achieve. You may see the logo on shop windows, letter headings or websites, signifying that a service is committed to making Leeds a better place for children. We, as ambassadors, look forward to working with Child-Friendly Leeds in the future.
